960 and counting! Cristiano Ronaldo fires Al Nassr to victory in Saudi Pro League

Cristiano Ronaldo continued his pursuit of 1,000 career goals as Al Nassr secured a 2-1 win over Damac in gameweek 16 of the Saudi Pro League. The 40-year-old forward scored his 960th career goal with a composed finish.

Following their win over Al Shabab last weekend, Al Nassr travelled to Abha to face Damac. With a clear difference in quality between the two sides, the visitors controlled the match from the start. In the fifth minute, Abdulrahman Ghareeb opened the scoring with a close-range finish to give Al Nassr an early lead.

Ronaldo had several chances in the first half but was unable to convert. Five minutes after the restart, he doubled Al Nassr’s advantage to score the 960th goal of his career. Sultan Al-Ghannam delivered the ball from the right to João Félix, who played a through pass for Ronaldo to finish calmly.

Damac pulled one goal back in the 68th minute from a corner, but it proved to be their only goal of the match. Al Nassr held on for a 2-1 victory, cutting the gap to league leaders Al Hilal to four points, despite having played one more game.

Ronaldo is now 40 goals away from reaching the 1,000-goal milestone in his career. The Portuguese forward remains determined to achieve the mark before the end of 2026. His current goal tally includes strikes for Sporting CP (5), Manchester United (145), Real Madrid (450), Juventus (101), Al Nassr (116), and Portugal (143).

After being named Middle East Player of the Year at the Globe Soccer Awards, Ronaldo reaffirmed his ambition. “I want to keep going. You all know what my goal is. I want to win more trophies, I want to reach that number everyone knows about - if injuries allow me to,” he said.

Ronaldo is also aiming to feature at the 2026 World Cup in North America. Portugal are expected to be strong contenders, with a core of players including Vitinha, João Neves and Nuno Mendes, all of whom continue to play key roles for club and country.
