Antoine Semenyo close to completing Man City move, medical scheduled for Thursday

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City have completed a deal to sign Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth. The forward is expected to play his final match for Bournemouth against Tottenham before completing his move to the Etihad Stadium.

Romano has used his famous “Here we go” phrase to confirm the transfer. As previously reported, Manchester City will activate Semenyo’s £65 million release clause before 10 January, while the clause is still valid.

The Ghana international is expected to sign a long-term contract with Pep Guardiola’s side and join the squad ahead of the upcoming schedule. Romano also revealed that Semenyo chose Manchester City over four other clubs because he “wanted to work under Pep Guardiola”.

Despite the deal being completed, Semenyo is still expected to play for Bournemouth against Tottenham before travelling to Manchester for a medical. It remains unclear whether he will feature in Bournemouth’s FA Cup third-round match against Exeter.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola said: “Antoine will play tomorrow, yes. I can give you my opinion, from my experience, but there is nothing signed with Antoine Semenyo. If you ask me personally, 'what do you think?' With all the noise, I think it could be the last game, but I cannot guarantee it.

“I understand the market, I understand the noise but right now there is nothing agreed, nothing signed, so for me he is our player and I hope he continues. But my understanding also, because I have been in the [transfer] market before with this club and others, there is a chance it is his last game also, yes.”

Bournemouth are currently 15th in the Premier League with 23 points, four points behind 14th-placed Crystal Palace. Semenyo’s departure would be a major blow for the club, as he is their top scorer this season with nine Premier League goals.

In addition to Semenyo, Bournemouth are also expected to be without forward Justin Kluivert, who is set to undergo surgery on his left knee and could be sidelined for several weeks.
