Man United fans show their anger towards the referee after Bournemouth star Semenyo escapes red card
In the 43rd minute of the first half, Bournemouth had equalised just three minutes earlier through Semenyo. The Ghanaian then intercepted the ball and clashed with Diogo Dalot, appearing to grab the Portuguese defender by the throat. The incident caused chaos as players from both teams rushed in, but the referee ultimately showed Semenyo only a yellow card.
The decision infuriated United supporters, who repeatedly questioned why Semenyo was not sent off. Many pointed to Casemiro’s incident two years ago, when the Brazilian received an immediate red card for a similar action. Fans labelled the decision “embarrassing” and criticised the consistency of refereeing.
United fan UTDKara wrote on X: “The Premier League is against Manchester United, how’s this not a clear red to Semenyo? Pathetic and embarrassing from the Premier League.”
UTDFaithfuls added: “Semenyo didn’t get a red card for this???” alongside an image of the incident.
FreddyQuinne recalled the Casemiro incident, saying: “Remember when Casemiro got a red card for literally exactly what Semenyo just did there.” Another user, DigitisedLipstk, agreed: “Casemiro can’t grab a player by the collar but Semenyo can grab a player by the throat… OK.”
After receiving only a yellow card, Semenyo stayed on the pitch for the remainder of the match. Manchester United were unable to secure a win despite Bruno Fernandes impressing with a goal and an assist. The 4–4 draw meant the Red Devils missed the chance to take fifth place from Crystal Palace and move closer to the top three.
For the remainder of 2025, Manchester United have three matches left: Aston Villa (21/12), Newcastle (27/12) and Wolves (31/12). With no other competitions to focus on, Ruben Amorim’s side will concentrate solely on the Premier League as they push for a European qualification spot next season.
