Top 10 most devalued footballers of 2025: Phil Foden and Rodri lead, no Man United player included
As the 2025 calendar year comes to an end, the football world has witnessed major storylines: Paris Saint-Germain’s dominance, Harry Kane winning his first major trophy, and the decline of several high-profile players and teams. Ahead of the new year, Transfermarkt released its list of the top 10 most devalued players of 2025.
Topping the list is Manchester City star Phil Foden, whose market value dropped from £117 million to £65.3 million. During the first half of the year, Foden struggled to fully adapt to Pep Guardiola’s system, scoring 13 goals in 49 appearances across all competitions. His form has improved recently, and his value is starting to recover.
Second on the list is Foden’s teammate Rodri. The 2024 Ballon d’Or winner endured a difficult year mainly due to injuries. The Spanish midfielder missed an entire season and then suffered four additional injuries during the current campaign. Another Manchester City player on the list is Bernardo Silva, whose value has fallen to £23.5 million.
Two more Premier League players feature in the top 10: Florian Wirtz and Martin Ødegaard. Wirtz is still adapting to his new club and needs time to show his full potential, while Ødegaard spent much of the year recovering from injury, leading to a £30 million drop in the Arsenal captain’s valuation.
In La Liga, Real Madrid and Barcelona account for the remaining five players. Vinícius Júnior ranks third overall after a noticeable dip in performance. Since Kylian Mbappé’s arrival, Vinícius is no longer the focal point of Real Madrid’s attack, and his goal contributions have declined across the 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons. Rodrygo and Eduardo Camavinga also appear on the list, having struggled for consistent game time and endured prolonged goal droughts.
The final two players are Barcelona duo Gavi and Ronald Araújo. Gavi continues to battle injury issues, while Araújo’s performances have fallen below expectations. Gavi’s market value dropped by 50%, while Araújo recorded the biggest percentage decrease on the list at 55%.
